I am super excited to start working on some beautiful looks with these new goodies so stay tuned guys!!

May Looks I'm Loving..

From the Met Ball to the Cannes this month has been filled with amazing makeup looks. Here are some of my favourites..

Aishwarya Rai
I love the simplicity and vibrance of this look. It looks as if Aishwarya Rai has used a lot of highlight and contour but because of how simple her eyes are it really makes her skin look sculpted and natural. The bright orange lip is great and the blue undertones really photograph well.
 Leighton Meester

Leighton's skin looks amazing here! Its glowing, it looks as if she hasn't used much foundation at all which I really like. There is a real boho feel to this makeup and the fact that she's kept everything so muted really plays up her eyes. I really like the use of browns and golds on the eyes and her tousled curls work well with the whole look.

Selena Gomez

Im not usually a fan of how much makeup Selena usually wears but I like how different she's gone with this look. The plum tones really work well with her dress and I like that she's kept her hair up so its not too much. I really think the berry lip suits her so it will be interesting to see if she's going to re-wear it. If I had to change one thing though, I would go lighter on the lashes, although I do like it's wispiness.

Marion Cotillard

Marion never seems to get it wrong. She oozes parisian chic here! Her glossy orange/red lip is bang on trend and I like that she's used metallic golds on the eye too. The colour combination works amazingly with her dress and I love her styled updo it really works well with the whole look.
Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria always manages to look glamorous but I particular like this look out of her cannes red carpet appearance. I've seen this smokey eye on her many times before, but I like that she's found something that works well and stuck with it. She's kept her skin glowing and contoured and all in all it's fool proof.

Freida Pinto

I have to say I really struggled to narrow down my favourite look for Freida Pinto. I loved them all! She manages to get away with any look she tries. I supposed when you're a model it comes with the trade. Even so, I particularly liked her take on a smokey eye in the first pic. She's used a black with specs of glitter which works well with the frosty finish of her lips. The second pic is also another favourite, the berry lip works well with her dress and I'm in love with her glossy hair!

Olivia Munn

Olivia looks so fresh and funky here. Her skin's glowing here,  and I love that she's allowed her freckles to show through. She's got a shimmering highlight on which makes her look really healthy and paired with a matte orange lip and 50s inspired hair its one of my favourite natural looks.
Joan Smalls

Joan has brought grunge chic to the Met Ball. She's played up her striking features, the use of this bold purple lip paired with her mauve dress works amazingly and I love the side fishtail braid. Its a very unique look and I love that she chose to try something different .
Kim Kardashian

The Kim at this year's Met Ball and the Kim at last years are at opposite poles of the spectrum. She looks amazing here! She's steered away from over made up lashes and heavy contour and gone for something supple and glowing. I love that she's used more highlight and blush here it makes her skin glow. Glossy lips and flowing curls really compliments her here and I'd like to see more of these kind of looks from her because it's really works!

Rosie Huntington Whitley

Rosie has stuck to something quite simple for this dress which I think is a good choice because her dress is so busy with detail it may have been too much. I quite like the heavy winged eyeliner, although I think its time she tries something new on her lips, nude seems to be a little over done recently.

Blake Lively

The showstopper of this month has to be Blake. She was my most favourite celebrity of the Cannes really channelling old school hollywood glamour at its finest. Blake always manages to keep her skin glowing and I like that she's played with braids and textured curls. She's a big fan of the inner corner highlight and I think its working really well for her. I am intrigued to see what else she will pull out of her sleeve but I have to say I am very impressed.

The Perfect Red Lip...Part 2

If you've read my previous post on red lipstick you'll know that the best way to choose a colour is by matching you're whole look accordingly. This post will feature my really good friend Nisha, I've used Ruby Woo by M.A.C and I'm going to show you how to match your makeup properly to suit it.

So as you can see, I've used gold tones on the eyes to brighten the face. The key to matching the lips to your makeup is to make sure the whole look goes well. First red lips go very well with golds and browns. I used a darker brown mixed slightly with black to add some definition. Now this step it so create dimension on the eyes and open up the whole face. When applying a crease colour you should be cautious as to what tones will suit both the lip colour and your initial lid shade. For example, a dark purple along the crease may suit the gold tone on the lid but will clash with the red lip. Its all about look at the whole image. Heavy liner worked well with Nisha because she has big eyes but for a smaller a eye shape you may want to re think this. Here are a list of products I used to create this:

Face:
MAC Face and Body - C6
MAC Studio Finish Concealer - NC 42/ NC 45
MAC Prep and Prime Highlighter - Bright Forecast
MAC Mineralize Skin Finish  - Dark
MAC Lustre Drops - Pink Rebel
MAC Studio Fix Powder - NC 42

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MUA Heaven and Earth Palette - The lighter gold shade
Urban Decay Smoked Palette - Backdoor, Blackout
Urban Decay Liner Peversion
Collection 2000 Liquid Black Liner

Lips:
MAC Beet Lip Liner
MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick

My Thoughts...Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation

I'm always cautious about trying out new foundations having suffered from a breakout almost every time I have decided to change face products. When I say I have tried them all, I really have. From MAC to Chanel to Giorgio Armani I have yet to find a foundation that I can really call my holy grail.
For the better part of a year, I was using Makeup Forever HD Foundation and I must say if there is a foundation that has come close to being a holy grail it has to be this one. It photographs perfectly and the coverage is great because you can wear it light when you want and build it up for full coverage. However, after months of wearing the same thing I wanted to venture out hence my new purchase from Illamasqua.
Illamasqua describe their Skin Base Foundation as 'inspired by the cult Asian market. Asian market Beauty Balm creams. Skin Base Foundation is a brand new, refined formula unlike anything on the UK market.'  When speaking to the beauty assistant on the shopfloor I found out that this product is filled with vitamins that are meant to help the skin look rejuvenated and young. Now I'm a sucker for any form of makeup that claims to help your skin, so this for me was a major selling point. Suffice to say I was very eager to try this product having read mad reviews about how great it looks.
Lets start with the good stuff. I like how simple the packaging is. It is a small travel friendly plastic bottle that is squeezable allowing for a hygienic and waste free use. This product looks amazing on the skin, and was actually a perfect shade match for me. I quite liked the consistency of the formula, it glided on to the skin well, was buildable and sat on my skin quite nicely. I also really liked the finish of this foundation, it made my skin look really natural. The coverage was amazing, after one layer of foundation my skin looked flawless. I'm sure you can tell by now that I was initially quite impressed with this stuff!
Here is a picture of me wearing the foundation on a night out, and this is without flash  (mind the messy room!)

Here a picture with flash on the same night

A more natural makeup look when I was out on dinner. I love how undetectable it looks.
And now for the negatives. This foundation as amazing as it looks initially, does not last long at all. Without powdering this foundation lasts about 2 hours and with powdering lasts at max 4 but even then it starts to oxidise and look uneven. I found this a huge disappointment, because I fell in love with how it looked on my skin after application. I also feel for the £32 I spent, I did not really get all that much more than others I have tried. Illamasqua claim that this foundation is HD ready, however I did struggle slightly with photography. Initially using this product I did suffer from some white flashback on my face, but I played around with MAC studio fix plus and bronzers to fix this. However the biggest con of this foundation is that it broke me out. Bare in mind my skin is extremely sensitive to foundations so i'm not entirely surprised, I was disappointed though. After about three weeks of using this foundation I started to get small bumps around the centre of my face.
I have to say, had I not broken out from this product I would be a lot more optimistic and inviting about it. There are many positives for this foundation,  it does look amazing on the skin and I do like the idea of how it incorporate vitamins and minerals into its formula. Suffice to say I will be returning back to my handy Makeup Forever HD Foundation, but I do recommend to anyone looking for something light and natural for summer to give this one a go. I would love to hear your thoughts on this product so comment below and let me know!
Illamasqua Skin Base is available in 25 shades and is priced at £32 available at most department stores and online.

Rosey Hues & A Top Product Alert

I was completely inspired by the makeup used on Burberry's catwalk, the use of rose tones and soft blush colours is totally something I'm into. I love playing up my eyes so I leaped at the chance to give this trend a try. Taking this as an opportunity to try out new products I went to the shops and bought a whole load of sleek eyeshadow
palettes. To recreate the element of rose tones into the eye makeup I used a dark purple matte along the crease to start with and then blended a dark navy matte on top for more depth. I then used a rosy gold pink shade on the centre of the eye and blended a soft gold on top to soften the whole look.

Here is how it turned out...

Face:
L'oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer
Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation - SB12
YSL Touche Eclate - 3
MAC Studio Finish Concealer - NC40
Sleek Blush - Rose Gold
MAC Bronzing Powder - Matte Bronze

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Sleek Ultra Matte V2 Palette
Sleek Oh So Special Palette
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Collection 2000 White Kohl Eyeliner
MAC Zoom Black Lash Mascara
Rimmel London Brow Pencil - Medium Brown

Lips:
Rimmel London Lip Liner - Tiramisu
MAC Lipstick - Please Me

I am so surprised by how pigmented the eyeshadows were in the Sleek palette. For £7.99 its such a bargain and having stuck by Urban Decay eyeshadows for so long, it's nice to have finally found something that not gonna break my bank. Although some colours were a little washed out when applied directly from the palette, after a couple spritz of mac studio fix plus, all the shades seem to have a new found life especially the shimmer tones. I definitely recommend these palettes for summer I know I will be buying a lot more soon!

All Bronzed Up.

I'm starting to get a little used to all these makeup poses! If you've ever seen me on a night out you'll know I'm a sucker for bronzed makeup. This is my all time favourite type of look mostly because it can be worn to almost any event. I used two shades of MAC studio finish concealer to create the contoured effect. This is the first time I've used YSL touché eclate and I have to say even though its 25 pounds it's totally worth it. The main focus of this look was keeping the skin natural and contoured. This makeup is good for a night out, dinner date or anything really. I chose to not wear lashes to keep it a bit more natural, but lashes can take it that extra bit further on the glamour spectrum. Also for some reason I wasn't really into using liquid liner this time, but I do think it would compliment this eye makeup really well. I have these moments when I completely go off eyeliner, and then I'm in love with it again haha. Anyways, here's a list of the products I used:

Face:
MAC Prep and Prime Skin Visage Primer
Makeup Forever HD Invisible Foundation - 153
